Saw an ad last night for mango and pineapple flavored Taiwan Beer...

Postby Deuce Dropper » 19 Apr 2012, 22:11

...anyone try this yet? I am not a huge fan of flavored beer, but with summer coming up this could be just refreshing enough to get me to drink that God-awful piss (Taiwan Beer) again.

"But Deuce, the jingpie is really good." No, it really isn't, it doesn't even stack up well against the generic flavorless foreign lagers on offer here, and compared to a full bodied or robust flavored beer...elle oh elle!

Hopefully they will do the flavoring delicately and not just dump a bunch of flavor crystals into each bottle.

I will be giving both a try.

Flavor is OK, but based on your post, I doubt you'll think highly of it. Really low alcohol percentage.

sounds sweet and sickly. Designed for local tastes obviously.

I've not seen it, but I would not trust anyone except perhaps the Belgians to get something like this right.

These are my chief fears. I love the idea of this, and the local version of each fruit is exceptional, so the table is set to make something great, all that is left is the execution, and it is the execution of this concoction that worries me the most.

Kudos to the TTL for trying new things. So much untapped potential with this monopoly, but then again they are a metaphor for so many businesses here. Its making cash, why worry about making it better?

Walked past a Taiwan Sugar convenience store nearby and also noticed 2 posters for the Mango and Pineapple flavored beer by TTL.

Think alcohol content is like 2.8% if I remember correctly, and from the looks of TTL's website http://beer.ttl.com.tw/ (click on 2012/04/19 news item for pic), they'll be selling 600cc bottles of them too. That alcohol content is a bit higher than the Radler beers http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/oettinger-radler/21990/ you can sometimes buy at RT Mart which are 2.5% and quite good during the summer.

it's alright, nothing special, I like both of the flavours and it's nice on hot days. They sell them in all Wellcom markets already as well as 7s from next month

Had a mango beer yesterday. Nice for a hot day. Low alcohol content, so a good thirst quencher. Almost no hoppy taste. It was sweet, but not as sweet as those Japanese canned cocktails.

It's as you would expect, all the greatness of a regular Taiwan beer with mango flavouring.
