Hi, all.

This very handsome young man is Suka:

Image

Suka is a typical husky. He is energetic, requiring lots of exercise, and prefers not to be alone. Suka likes to ulalate, or sing, rather than bark, though not very often. He needs to be leashed at all times, as huskies have a great sense of abandonment and will happily go wandering off with anyone or anything that seems interesting to them. He needs a firm but calm leader, and someone who is consistent in reminding him of rules, boundaries, and limitations; a fun 15-minute daily training session is a must.

Image

Huskies need assertive humans who know how to lead, as they have little respect for weakness. Suka is playful and loving, and brings a smile to our faces every day with his antics. He gets on very well with other dogs but huskies are not known to be good around cats.

Image

Suka (his name means 'flame' in Innuit) has beautiful copper-red and white colouring, and is in perfect health, having recently recovered from a mild skin disorder. Like other huskies, he needs daily brushing, but is naturally a very clean and free from body odour. He must not become overheated.

Image

He has the capacity to become a fun and endearing addition to your household. Something you do need to know about Suka is that he was brought to us for rehabilitation for biting. It only took two days to fix that problem, though he is still learning how to overcome food guarding; the only times he has bitten since rehabilitation is when he got overexcited at feeding time and accidentally nipped the hand that was feeding him - no skin was broken, and it was not intentional, but you must be familiar with huskies and confident about training if you want a happy lifelong relationship with Suka, which he is more than capable of giving to the right person or family. I should add that Suka is very good around people and kids at all times other than when food is in his bowl, but we are fixing that currently.

Image

He is fully vaccinated, microchipped, and neutered. The Animals Taiwan holding centre staff have trained him to walk perfectly on a leash and sit for his food. He loves cuddles.

Image

If you think you have what it takes to earn Suka's respect and bring out his ability to be the very best canine companion you could ever wish for, please send me a PM, or call me on 0920 620 109, or email me at seanXXX@XXXanimalstaiwan.org (deleted the X's) for more details.

Image

Oh, and if you happen to have a wheelchair dog who needs a little hand over loose sand or up hills, Suka is always more than happy to show you what he was bred for:

Come and meet him today. You will not be disappointed.

Thank you!

Hi Everyone
I'm so overjoyed to see that Suka (aka Aho) has been rehabilitated and is doing so well, looking fabulous too!
I was the person who was bitten by Suka but I still think that he is a wonderful dog who will do well in the right environment. He was a pleasure to care for when I had him, especially considering the appalling condition he was in when I got him.
Good Luck Suka!
Peace and Love

Suka is still available for adoption, happily entertaining himself in the Animals Taiwan holding-centre exercise area, blissful in the freezing cold.

Just to make it clear, my profile above is honest. Suka is a wonderful dog who simply needs someone experienced with huskies. He makes a wonderful, fun, loving companion.

We may be finding Suka a home in Canada, but if you are interested in meeting this wonderful young dog, let me know ASAP.

Thank you!

Ha! His name was originally Aho, which means something nice in Taiwanese or Hakka , I was told, but meant something like 'stupid' in Japanese.

You just can't win. Guess we won't get adopted in Russia, now, though.

As I mentioned in the original post, Suka, like most huskies, will always test leadership, and he had a problem with food aggressiveness (or sometimes over-excitedness). I was overjoyed to get this brief video from Animals Taiwan's holding centre manager, which she made after working with Suka on some of his issues:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOW1IcjK-Ss

As you can see, he is very trainable and attentive, and well on the way to rehabilitation.

If you would like to be the lucky leader who gets to add Suka to his pack, please email Brandy at AnimalsTaiwan.org today, or call her at the holding centre, 02 2833 8820, between 10.30 am and 6.00 pm, Tuesday to Saturday.

Adopt. Don't buy! :)

Thanks to the efforts of the Animals Taiwan Adoption Team, and to the kindness of the people at http://www.siberrescue.org/, Suka will be flying to Toronto, Ontario, to be placed with a foster family who understand huskies perfectly.

This is fantastic news, as Suka really needs and deserves this chance. Siber Rescue do wonderful work finding great homes for unwanted huskies, and we're extremely grateful for their assistance in this case.

I'll be starting a couple of new threads - one to raise funds to cover the estimated NT$25,000 in costs, and another to find someone flying that way in the coming weeks.

Watch this space for pics of Suka in Canada!

Hi, all - I thought we had someone, but it fell through, so please read on - thanks.

This is Suka's story: http://www.forumosa.com/taiwan/viewtopic.php?p=810512#810512

Suka has a great foster home waiting for him in Toronto, Ontario, so we're looking for someone flying that way in the coming weeks who would accompany this wonderful dog just on his flight. There is very little you need to do, as we take care of everything.

If you can help this guy get to where he really should be, please send me a PM, or email me at seanimalsXXX@XXXgmail.com (delete the X's).

Can't wait to hear from you!

Sean
